Speed Week and the return of NASCAR- I have to say, so far, that it has been pretty exciting.
The Sprint Unlimited was a field of 18 cars untill Terry Labonte parked after a lap. The last lap of the first segement saw my JJ, old 6-pack himself, out of it after getting the air taken off the back end of his car- Harvick didn't touch him, but he skidded into the infield wall just the same, ending his night.
The "Big One" collected half the field when Matt Kenseth didn't see Joey Logano and slid into him, instead of in front of him. After that it was the wreckers for Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse, and ironically, Danica Patrick, who was originally okay and stopped but then struck by boyfriend Stenhouse, who couldn't see and couldn't stop.
Then the pace car caught fire... seriously? How does that happen?
After a bump from Marcus Ambrose, Dale Earnhart wrecked out as well... bumping on a caution lap? Seriously not Ambrose's fault...
At the end, only 8 cars survived and included several that had been involved in the crashes. And in a race where only winning matters, Denny Hamlin was the winner- awesome for a guy wrecked out and seriously injured last summer. He was followed to the line by Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch...
Hamlin's comment as he crossed the finish line: "Any questions?" spoke volumes- clearly Homestead was not a fluke- he is back in the mix of contenders for sure.
